Impressive Johnson pops up to spoil Badger Party

Kingsbury Water parkrun #141 - BADGERS
An incredible 28 BADGERS gathered together at the 141st running of the Kingsbury Water Park parkrun on Saturday. The first Saturday of the month is used by the north Warwickshire club to converge en-masse at their local parkrun event and with several speed-merchants in attendance, BADGERS were hoping for some high finishers as a quartet of runners hit the front. They had not bargained for the presence of Matthew Johnson however, as the tall Hinckley AC runner strode ahead to finish first in 17:23. Veteran Chris Horton rolled back the years and pinned back his ears to finish second in 17:39, three seconds ahead of team mate Chris Baxter in third. Dave Jackson ran a fine 17:50 in fourth while Danny Warren made it a BADGERS 2-3-4-5, just dipping under 18 minutes. As if this wasn’t enough, new boy Glyn Broadhurst, current leader of the male points table, finished in 8th place as BADGERS dominated the top ten.

David Craig’s hitherto impressive season continued apace as he ran strongly finishing just ahead of first lady BADGER back, Esther McCullagh (21:46). The performance of the day though was undoubtedly that of Paul Grubb who recorded a new PB after 84 runs. Since taking up running, popular Paul has chopped an incredible ten minutes off his 5K time. Ashley Taylor, Rob Crow ran well while a breathless Karen Thompson continues to improve finishing 7th female in 24:07 just ahead of ladies captain Rachael Bunting.

Pat Cleall and Dewi Powell split the 25 minute barrier with Alex Rous making a return to action with a time of 25:25. Charlotte Oliver and Jo Davies both recorded PB’s with Alan Argyle, Amy Stredder, Liz Peel, David Bailey, Judy Parkes and Bev Spencer all running well. Young Evie Whitehead wore her parkrun milestone T-shirt with pride as both her and mum Kay ran the course in a fabulous 30 minutes. Joanne Burrows and Dan Welch scored new PB’s. Richard Hill and Rachael Howard got round safely while Carolyn Hall also ran.

Two BADGERS took on separate half marathon challenges at the weekend. Abbie Liddle went off like a missile running a fabulous 1:52 at the Eton Run while Anna Gibiino tackled the Loughborough Half clocking a very respectable 1:47 in tough conditions.

On Sunday, several BADGERS made the short trip to Warwick to compete in the BHF Warwick Half Marathon. Rob Boland led the way with a new PB of 99 minutes. Ed Winter too PB’d with a great time of 1:50. Ashley Taylor clocked 1:49 and Richard Hill 1:53. Rob Crow helped Jo Davies to a fine new personal best of 1:58 while Leesa Dennis (2:22) and Janet Crumpton (2:21) also recorded new personal bests at the distance. The ageless Carl Holyoak competed in the Ram Run double event at the weekend finishing 2nd veteran in the 12k race on Saturday before going one better on the Sunday, finishing top veteran in the 24k event and 7th overall, a fine achievement. Elsewhere, Teresa Buck went to the Bubble Rush Charity run at Coombe Abbey.
