ELEVEN PB’s And TWO Club Records In Just ONE Weekend!

Swithland 6 2015 - BADGERS
In a week when athletics was in the news for all the wrong reasons, BADGERS did their little bit to redress the balance by enjoying an absolutely stunning weekend which saw no fewer than eleven of its members race to personal bests and two new club records set in addition.

The first summer league race of the season in the Leicestershire Road Running League took place at picturesque Mountsorrel - the Swithland 6. Of the team that ran last year, only Chris Horton, Karen Thompson and Jason Husselbee-Orwin featured in the team this time around. A total of 19 BADGERS took to the sun-baked streets near Loughborough and first home in a magnificent 11th place from 661 runners was the impressive Ian Mansell in a superb time of 33:58, closely followed by the fast –improving Danny Warren, 14th overall in a tremendous 34:25 (PB). The speedy Dave Jackson marked his BADGERS league debut with a high quality PB of 35:24 while Chris Horton was the first veteran back in 37:20. Evergreen Martyn Barrett ran a superb 41:19 to equal his previous best, James Eckloff debuted in 41:30, Adrian Payne an excellent 41:32 (PB) on tired legs and vice-captain Dave Earp 42:44 (PB). Birthday girl Rachel Crump finished strongly in 46:03, while Serena Baker ran a fabulous 46:40 (PB) on her way towards her Gold standard times for the season. The increasingly more regular Mark Robinson clocked 46:56 (PB), Will Cartwright 47:47 and in-form Alan Argyle 48:26 (PB). Rachael Bunting continued her impressive improvement with a PB of 48:38, Jayne Potter once again looked good crossing the line in 49:11 (PB) with Nicki Bowman just behind in 49:31. Karen Thompson battled hard and turned in a gutsy performance of 50:15 while Jason Husselbee-Orwin overcame a torrid start to the morning to finish in 52:18 (PB) and a special mention too for youngster Lily Bowman who managed a creditable 60:58 whilst in the midst of the pressures of studying for her exams.

Meanwhile, at the Ramathon Half Marathon in Derby, Adie Kirkham recorded a new PB at the distance of 1:37:34, David Craig ran 1:42 and Dewi Powell 1:58:33.

At Kingsbury Water Park parkrun on Saturday, Chris Horton finished strongly in 5th position with a time of 18:14, a new V40 club record, while Alan Argyle clocked 23:34, a new V60 club record. Also participating were Jared Karim, Richard Hill in his 115th Parkrun – a superb achievement, David Craig, Nicola Bowman, Serena Baker, Jason Husselbee-Orwin, Dewi Powell, Yvonne Feasey, Pete Boardman, Mandy Hanson, Tracy Elsdon and Carolyn Hall.

Elsewhere, Dave Earp ran the Churches Together in Sapcote & Sharnford – 4.2k Charity Fun Run and was 1st to cross the finish line.
