Leicester 5k July 2015 - BADGERS
Victoria Park in Leicester was the venue for the penultimate 5K race of the Summer Series and BADGERS sent a strong side out to try and recapture their team win from the first race in the competition. However, other teams had similar ideas and several speed-merchants were out in force on the challenging and angular course. In fact, the first four finishers clocked sub 17 minutes to give an indication of the calibre of athlete on show. First Badger was the blue faced Ian Mansell who ran 17:48 with Danny Warren immediately behind him in 10th place with a fine 17:53. Chris Horton finished first veteran in the race to claim a prize, in 15th place in a time of 18:17 while Adie Payne continued his improvement by clocking an excellent 19:43 and David Craig too showed some of his best form running a fabulous 20:52. A tired Rachael Bunting made it to the start line buoyed by a last minute pack of Haribo sweets and amazingly pulled out yet another personal best 23:51 while Alan Argyle (25:10) scooped a prize for the first V60 finisher in the race.

At the popular Coventry Northbrook 10K, Danny Warren produced a fine PB of 36:27 to finish a magnificent 8th place in a very strong field. Newcomer Sarah Lea stepped up her distance and competed in the hilly Rugby half marathon and finished in a very credible 2:31:03.

Adie Kirkham ran his 43rd marathon, the 12th this year, this time in Shropshire titled “ Hell of a Hill” Marathon, finishing in 5th place in a time of 4:18 on treacherously hilly terrain. David Craig ran the half distance at the same venue and also lived to tell the tale – just!

At Conkers Parkrun, Jason Husselbee-Orwin became only the third Badger in history to make it to the milestone of 100 events while at Kingsbury Water Park, runners included Ashley Taylor, Simon Butlin, Paul Grubb, Alan Argyle, John Hanson, Pete Boardman, Louise Winter and Carolyn Hall. David Craig did very well the week before but accidentally got left out of the report.

Midweek, Danny Warren finished a superb 2nd place in the “Seven @ Severn” 7K race in a PB of 25:26, Dave Jackson (25:58) close behind in 6th place and Adi Payne (28:30 – PB) in 15th. Veteran David Craig ran a fine race in 22nd place (29:28) while Esther McCullagh was first lady back in 31:46, a new best for her. Rachael Bunting ran her umpteenth consecutive PB in 35:10, without the assistance of Haribos this time!

In the Dirty Dozen 12K OCR race in South Wales, Adi Payne finished in 13th place with Aaron Chetwynd also making a welcome return to form after recent injury setbacks and finally in nearby Polesworth, several BADGERS took part in the Polesworth Garage to The Office Pub fun run to Warton in aid of Cancer Research, Chris Horton finishing in fancy dress as first banana home which was also first place in the whole race! David Craig finished 4th with Dave Earp, Paul Grubb, Ashley Taylor and Richard Hill all turning out for the club in what turned out to be a great fundraiser.
