West End 8 2015 - BADGERS
BADGERS teams scooped two prizes last week as their improving men’s team followed up their first place at the Kingsbury Classic 10k event with a fine win at the prestigious Leicester Summer Series 5k just two days later. The trio of in-form Danny Warren, newcomer Dave Jackson along with veteran Chris Horton stormed to first position at the popular 10k event. Warren finished in a fantastic 2nd place (35:37 – PB), Jackson (36:44 – PB) too continued his run of great form as he finished fifth with Horton 8th. Also competing and performing well were Adrian Payne (PB), Carl Holyoak, Martyn Barrett, Jared Karim, David Craig, Dave Earp, Dewi Powell, Serena Baker (first lady), Karen Thompson, Mark Williams, Rachael Bunting, Stuart Walton, John Savin-Baden, Rich Hill, Eamon Thawley and debutante Sarah Lea. The ladies team of Baker, Thompson and Bunting finished in second place, an excellent effort.

The following day Chris Horton and David Earp travelled to Rugby for their annual six mile race the Rugby 6. In a high class field, Horton set a new club record of 37:00 while Earp managed a PB in 43:00.

Ian Mansell defied injury to win the 5k race at Leicester’s Victoria Park although despite running in his Badger vest, his membership dictated he was representing Dudley and Stourbridge on the day, however, Danny Warren in 4th, Chris Horton in 12th and David Craig in 31st place did enough to clinch the men’s team award. Rachael Bunting and Dave Earp also featured for BADGERS in the event, both achieving personal bests in the process.

At Kingsbury Water Park parkrun on Saturday, Adrian Payne (20:36) was first Badger back in 17th place ahead of team mates Ashley Taylor, Jason Husselbee-Orwin, Karen Thompson, John Hanson, Jessica Welch (PB), Judy Parkes, Many Hanson, Tracy Elsdon, Richard Hill, Emily Karim, Vicki Howard, Nicola Bowman, Lily Bowman and a welcome return to action for Mark Griffin

The final race of the LRRL winter league took place on Sunday, the West End 8 again seeing a big turnout for the North Warwickshire club. As usual, Danny Warren led the way in a highly competitive field finishing in a fine 21st position in a cracking time of 47:34. Chris Horton was not far behind in a new PB of 50:25, Adrian Payne 57:16 and Esther McCullagh first lady back in a PB of 57:24. Anna Gibiino, Ashley Taylor, Men’s Captain Dewi Powell and Richard Hill all ran well. Jayne Potter and Karen Thompson both looked good crossing the line together in 68:15 which gave the duo a PB each. Will Cartwright, Paul Grubb, Anne Wells, Perri Griffin and Pete Wells all put in excellent performances on a warm May morning.

Dave Jackson ran the Leicester 10k and clocked up an impressive time of 37:30, while Sarah Cresswell participated in the Walsall 10k Race For Life and managed yet another Badger PB for her effort in the race.
In addition to that, Steph White and Maggi Savin-Baden competed in the Speedy Belvoir triathlon, White finishing 2nd in her age group.
