BADGERS arrived in quite some force at Catton Park on Sunday for the Conti Lightning Run and came away with some genuine glory as Matt Tonks and Monika Lampart stormed to a comprehensive victory in the mixed pairs at the annual 12 hour event. After taking an early lead, the gutsy duo showed real class and determination as they finished a whole 10k lap ahead of their nearest rivals after the 12 hour cut off. As if that wasn’t enough, BADGERS sneaked into third place too as partners Esther McCullagh and Carl Holyoak took advantage of a Grandparent’s offer of babysitting, to run together and incredibly made up a final lap deficit of around a minute to gain a well earned place on the podium in 3rd.

Chris Upton and Karen Thompson finished a highly creditable 8th , running 110 kilometres between them while Adie Kirkham and Rosie Harding (on debut) also performed terrifically well in this gruelling event where essentially, each runner runs a 10k lap before handing over to the next in the team. When there is just the two of you it means a lot of running and not much rest!

BADGERS also had teams of five participating – David Craig, Serena Baker, Nicola Bowman, Dewi Powell and Jared Karim ran as did the quintet of Clare Whetton, Stuart Walton, Angela Stallings and John & Maggi Savin-Baden.

It was also good to see Leighton Plank making a return to action after a long lay-off in his team of five.

Fresh, or possibly not, from his London Marathon exploits, Mark Darby turned in an impressive 1:44:39 half marathon recovery run over at Lichfield, while Steph White 1:49:23, Neil Gourlay 1:44:02, Anna Gibiino 1:44:57, Ashley Taylor 2:03:32, Alan Argyle 1:59:03 and Mike Taylor 1:49:24 also featured. Steph came 4th in her age category.

Richard Hill finished in the top 100 runners at the densely populated Birmingham 10k in a time of 51:49.

On Saturday, BADGERS were found at various parkruns again. Ian Mansell travelled to Wolverhampton finishing 2nd in an impressive 16:55, Dave Jackson finished an excellent 3rd at Conkers equalling his PB in 17:36, Chris Horton finished a tired 9th ahead of Jason Husselbee-Orwin. In-form Danny Warren ran a new club record of 17:11 at Kingsbury Water Park, with Dave Earp 20:52 weighing in with a PB of his own at the same venue. Ashley Taylor, Rich Hill, Rachael Bunting, John & Mandy Hanson ahead of their 30th Wedding Anniversary ran, as did Carolyn Hall and Alan Argyle.
