Prestwold 10k 2015 - BADGERS
Loughborough was the venue for Sunday’s LRRL league race, the Prestwold 10k. BADGERS performed superbly well yet again, Ian Mansell speeding off like his namesake Nigel to be first Badger back again in a great time of 35:11. Dave Jackson ran 37:23 despite a nasty fall the day before, Chris Horton just behind in 37:45, a new v40 club record. Adi Payne ran a gutsy 41:46, Rachel Crump was first female back in a new v40 club record of 45:26 with Ashley Taylor 19 seconds behind. Chris Upton ran 46:19, Mark Robinson 47:43, Will Cartwright 48:19, Rachael Bunting 49:15 (PB), Richard Hill (49:22), in-form Alan Argyle (49:27 – PB and v60 club record) and skipper Dewi Powell, minus his Badger suit two seconds over the fifty minute mark.

Last weekend saw the 100th edition of the Kingsbury Water Park Parkrun and to help celebrate the feat, BADGERS, who were instrumental in the formation of the event, turned up in their droves to participate and assist on the special day. The club laid on pacers helping many runners to achieve various goals and personal bests, and despite the slightly damp conditions, the attendance was truly staggering. 35 BADGERS ran the event, with Chris Horton first Badger home in 2nd place overall in a cracking time of 17:39, bettering his 21 month old PB. Martyn Barrett ran a quality sub-20 time too in 19:46 while serial PB merchants Eamon Lord-Thawley, Rachael Bunting and Leesa Dennis all clocked new bests as did the improving Jessica Welch, Emily Karim and Sue Wilson. Men’s team Captain Dewi Powell even completed the run pacing 34 minutes resplendent in a rather warm full Badger costume. A special mention too for Paul Grubb who ran his heart out and missed out on a PB of his own by just one single second.

Midweek running took place at nearby Hinckley this week, their 5K race saw the speedy Danny Warren set a new club record of an incredible 17:07 which was good enough to land him 6th place in the race. Adi Payne ran 19:40 – a big improvement on his PB. Chris Upton clocked 21 minutes dead, Dave Earp 21:10 while Carl Holyoak ran 21:31 and Esther McCullagh a fantastic 21:33 which saw her claim a new club record in the process and first senior female home, second senior female was the ever improving Rachael Bunting who again ran yet another PB in 23:54. Alan Argyle ran the Rothley 10K and also found time to participate in the Shugborough relays!

At the Airfield Anarchy event, Monika Lampart triumphed in both the 5K and 10 mile events and somehow found the energy for 2nd place in the 10K race all staged over the same weekend – a tremendous achievement of endurance and stamina. Fellow Badger Adrian Payne finished 5th male in the 10 miler too capping an excellent performance for the club in the OCR discipline.

Also on Sunday, Adie Kirkham racked up his 41st marathon, the “Superhero” in Milton Keynes, in marginally over 4 hours on a hot day, Mandy Hanson completed the Stone 10k in 65 minutes, Carl Holyoak was in a team of four finishing a highly credible second in the Brutal 10K 12 hour night race and Steph White and Maggi Savin-Baden both debuted their Olympic distance triathlon events in the Avenger event, with White finishing 3rd in her age category in a time of 3:36, Savin- Baden winning her age group in 4:29.
