Bootiful BADGERS!

Turkey Trot 2015 - BADGERS
In the final week before Christmas, BADGERS travelled over to Wolverhampton to take part in the annual Turkey Trot race – a five mile affair with a goody bag containing wares from that noteworthy purveyor of turkey derived products, none other than Bernard Matthews! Ian Mansell continued his slow progress coming back from injury and illness to record a fine 9th place in a time of 29:18, just two seconds off Chris Horton’s club record for the distance. Adi Payne flew round in a fabulous time of 34:49 with veteran Dave Craig just behind in an excellent 35:13. Nivette Chester continued her comeback with impressive style, beating her good friend Stephanie White’s club record for the distance in a great time of 38 minutes flat. This was such a good time, it also ranked as a new V40 age-grade club record as well! White herself finished not far behind in 39:32 while Maggi Savin-Baden ran a fine 45:16.

Two BADGERS travelled a little further at the weekend, both in terms of race location and distance. Likeable club chairperson Karen Thompson and fellow run-leader Adie Kirkham made the journey to Newark on Trent for the Showground Christmas Challenge Trail Marathon. The durable duo successfully made it round the 26.2 mile course in 4:43 – fine efforts from the pair.

At Kingsbury Water Park parkrun on Saturday, there were several BADGERS back in action on a course still drying out from all the recent rain. Many runners donned festive attire as Christmas was celebrated and a brass band even played popular carols to those partaking the 5km run. Dave Jackson ran a terrific 17:51 to finish second overall. David Craig continued his improvement by clocking 20:51 while Esther McCullagh produced another superb run in 22nd place with a time of 21:53. Jared Karim ran a solid 22:25 while Ashley Taylor, so close to throwing a 180 over the weekend in a late if somewhat unlikely bid for Sports Personality of the Year 2015, ran 24:17. Despite the less than ideal conditions, Angela Stallings ran a personal best in 24:21and Rob Frost took minutes off his previous best running a fine 24:47 as his improvement continues apace. Richard Hill, dressed as a pudding, Carl Holyoak pushing a crib on wheels, and Jason Husselbee-Orwin complete in Santa suit all completed the race with smiles on their faces. Other runners included Patrick Cleall, Fay Casey, Liz Peel, Chelsea Wilson, Luke Miles, Judy Parkes, Sheila Benbow, Will Cartwright and Sue Wilson.

At Milton Keynes Parkrun, Aaron Chetwynd ran a personal best of 20:22 while Chris Upton showed glimpses of his best form once again up at Conkers with a quality effort of 21:50. Stuart Walton also ran.
