Swithland 6 2016 - BADGERS

BADGERS speed-smith Danny Warren continued his fine form of late by finally breaking into the top ten in the LRRL summer league series. At a glorious sunny Swithland, the Baddesley man stormed round the scenic 6 mile course, encompassing the beautiful Swithland reservoir, in a superb time of 34:17, sufficient to earn him a tremendous ninth place in a high quality field. Rugged warrior Dave Jackson (36th) trucked in next in a very good time of 36:10 while Chris Horton (52nd) was first veteran back a minute behind him. Aaron Chetwynd continues his improvement, bagging himself a well-deserved personal best time of 37:35 in 63rd place while Glyn Broadhurst and Adi Payne both made the top 100. New signing Ian Smith made an impressive debut as he eclipsed even the legendary Martyn Barrett in a time of 40:35.

Jared Karim pipped Dave Craig while Rachel Crump strode determinedly to a fine personal best of 42:04 and in doing so became the first lady finisher for the club. Rob Boland, Colin Lees and Ashley Taylor ran well and it was a major plus to see veteran John Hanson heading back towards his best form with another quality run. Chris Upton made a positive return to racing action while Nicki Bowman finished with a fast late run to the line to clock 48:04. With almost 30 runners in action, it was another bumper turn-out for the club with even the popular Mark Robinson making a guest appearance. Rachael Bunting, John Savin-Baden, Richard Hill, Anne Wells, Serena Baker and Jason Husselbee-Orwin ran well as did Paul Grubb and ladies vice-captain Claire Fielding. Karen and Jo Thompson finished well within the hour mark showing just how far the club has come in recent times.

Meanwhile, several BADGERS ran the annual Sutton fun-run. Keir and Jo Hardy both took part as did Leesa Dennis, Charlotte Oliver and Helena Rean. Teresa Buck also went. Elsewhere, Jo Davies and Rob Crow ran the Ramathon half marathon together in a fraction under two hours.

BADGERS provided a variety of pacers at Kingsbury Parkrun on Saturday for those runners aiming for new best times yet still managed to field a swathe of keen runners in the meantime. Chris Baxter claimed his first ever first place at his home course in a terrific time of 17:44, a great effort after a very testing last couple of weeks for the Ashby based speedster. Aaron Chetwynd cruised to a new personal best of 18:29 to become only the 15th BADGER to join the sub-20 minute club. Glyn Broadhurst (18:41) ran a fine new PB and Adi Payne ran just two seconds shy of his own best in 19:25 while the evergreen Martyn Barrett managed 19:54 proving that age is no obstacle to quality in the 5K run. Keir Hardy posted 20:15 – a huge new best. Other runners included Dave Craig, Ashley Taylor, Colin Lees, Adie Kirkham, Danny Warren, Dave Jarvis, Chris Upton, Jason Husselbee-Orwin, Fay Casey, Anne Wells, David Bailey and the lesser-spotted Mark Robinson. Kerry Nicholls, John Hanson and Pete Wells all safely made it round while Rob Crow, Leanne Baker and Michelle Carter all did well. Joanne Burrows, Sandra Ward and youngster Luke Baker performed heroically while stalwart Richard Hill, the plucky Rachael Howard and the effervescent Serena Baker all did their bit. Youngsters Adam Baker and Grace Jackson tried their very best while Paul Grubb did a fine pacing job well. Teresa Buck went well as did Jo Hardy. Other runners included Aguwen Mibabi and Steph White.
