Beginner BADGERS
The latest crop of Beginners successfully completed their twelve week fitness programme at BADGERS by completing the 5K Kingsbury Water Park parkrun on Saturday. For some it was their first foray into the world of running while others it presented a chance to enjoy what they used to do regularly decades ago.

In addition to the new recruits, dozens of existing club members showed their support by turning out for the 153rd running of the event. The in-form Dave Jackson led the way with a top quality run of 17:37, enough to earn him second place just ahead of plucky team mate Chris Baxter, who still broke 18 minutes despite nursing a cracked rib. Veteran runner Chris Horton in his 81st parkrun finished in sixth place and in doing so maintained his record of never having finished outside of the top ten. Glyn Broadhurst took tenth spot in 19:07 as the club made their mark on proceedings.

Eamon Thawley weighed in with a gritty display in 23:29, newcomer Zoe Yeatman recorded a fine new personal best of 29:25 and John Savin-Baden showed great strength to record a fine time of 24:18. Other runners included Alan Argyle, Rob Crow, David Bailey, Jason Husselbee-Orwin, Paul Grubb, Joanne Burrows and Mark Robinson. Graduates included Rebecca Kinson, Debbie Wilson, Michelle Carter, Karen Draper, Teresa Buck, Joanna Collinson, Sarah Wakelin, Alex Mousley, Angie Carter and the irrepressible Ted Franklin. Making it a bumper day out for the club were Rachael Howard, Neil Gourlay, Rachel Hudspith, Claire Bradford, triathlete Rosie Harding, Stuart Walton, Clare Whetton, Ashley Carter, Mandy Hanson, John Hanson, Debbie Zimmerman and of course the hard-working club Chairperson Karen Thompson.

Elsewhere, Ashley Taylor, Karen Missen and Sharon Whitehead all graced Conkers with their presence, Chris Upton ambled around Market Harborough while Richard Hill, Steph White and Jo James all safely made it round the pretty course at Rosliston without further ado.

Away from events at parkrun, Ryan Bennett managed a superb first place and Brendan Ford third at the latest 12K Ram Run obstacle course. Glyn Broadhurst clocked 42:21 at the Shenstone 10K while John Hanson rolled back the years at the Stratford Raceways 10 mile race, hammering home a new personal best time of 76:20, a major plus as he continues to return towards his very best form.

Anne-Marie Matthews completed the Snickerthon Marathon at Chasewater Country Park alongside Adie Kirkham who chalked up his 65th and the indestructible Matt Tonks who has done twice as many again!

At the Sproatley 7, Chris Horton recorded a new V40 club record for the distance as he finished in a superb tenth place with a dogged run of 43:15.

At the Ultimate Half Iron Triathlon in Whitchurch, Nivette Chester and Maggi Savin-Baden successfully negotiated the 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike ride and half marathon run on a warm day. Maggi even finished 5th in her age category – a fabulous efforst. Next week sees the club return to league action with a trip over to the Hungarton 7. Last year, this popular evening race was run on the hottest day in years in temperatures up to 35 degrees. Runners are hoping for slightly more favourable conditions this time around.
