Karen Thompson in action at KWp
With many of the BADGERS club enjoying their annual overseas tour, action was a little thinner on the ground at home this weekend, especially as the scheduled cross country league race was cancelled at the last minute. There were no such problems at the brilliantly organised Kingsbury Water Park parkrun on Saturday where several BADGERS put on a show. The first runner back of either gender was the rapidly improving Karen Thompson. The popular club Chairperson made it a triple celebration after being presented with her 50th appearance T-shirt and then lopping an incredible 13 seconds off her long-standing personal best with a tremendous time of 23:14 finishing 4th lady in the field overall. Eamon Thawley followed through in 24:13 while his young daughter Emma made it a great day for the Thawley household by recording a brilliant new personal best of her own in 31:04, clearly following in her father’s fine footsteps. Lee Millership (24:21) and Lorna Jackson (25:26) both ran well as did Liz Peel (26:10) and veteran David Bailey (27:48). Alex and Victoria Hill both got round safely as did Jo Davies and Rob Crow.

At Conkers, Stuart Walton (28:32) romped home as first BADGER back just one stride-length ahead of Jason Husselbee-Orwin (28:39). Claire and Izzy Bradford turned out at Coventry with popular parkrun pioneer Richard Hill running a quality 25:50 at Hatfield Forest. Jared Karim tackled the scenic Rosliston parkrun and emerged with 17th place and a time of 21:44 to boot.

Elsewhere, five BADGERS appeared at the East Midlands Airport 10K run on the Sunday. Yvonne Faulkner continued her impressive form by clocking 57:24, a personal best while Jo Hardy too set a new benchmark going under the hour in a time of 59:11. Karen Draper ran an excellent 72:12 having come a very long way in such a short space of time. Sharon Whitehead and Pam Bridgwood both debuted at the distance and emerged pleased as punch with their efforts on a cool and wintry day.
