Stilton 7 2017 - BADGERS
In yet another action packed week the Brave BADGERS were yet again beating off the opposition in parkrun’s far and wide. Glyn Broadhurst who is currently ‘one to watch’ flew around a windy conkers in 18.04 with a superb 2nd place, and yet another pb! He cannot stop cranking one after another out! First Conkers BADGER lady home was Esther Holyoak (22.52) gradually regaining the form of fastest female BADGER with a course PB. Stuart Batchelor, Carl Holyoak and son Josiah, Nicki Bowman, Alan Argyle, Stuart Walton and David Bailey (course PB) all sped round in steady times.

At Long Eaton the aerodynamic Chris Baxter was suffering from bad wind in the home straight but still smashed out a rapid 17.15 and a top 5 placing despite suffering with a very poorly arm as well. Duracell Bunny Steph White led the way at Walsall Parkrun cruising round in a sprightly 24.35 pipping parkrun adventurer Richard Hill (24.37) with the ever popular Judy Parkes not far behind (27.31) which was also a gutsy pb, testament to her recent hard work in training. Judy’s wava rating (age grading) has increased a huge 10% since she began running, what a trooper! Parkrun stalwarts John Hanson and Jason Husselbee Orwin proved they’re ‘back in the hunt’ with gritty times of 24.55 and 27.05 repectively at arrow valley, Redditch. Paul Restall (27.54) and Annemaz Matthews (31.39) also made the trip with some great efforsts. Jonathan Davies also cruised round at Worcester Parkrun.

At Stilton 7 mile, Leicestershire road league race 2 many high scoring BADGER’s were missing for the promotion chasing team, Horton, Smith,Baxter, Holyoak, Mullan,  and Cloaca-Taylor amongst others. This meant others needed to gratefully take the load of the absentees and they did not disappoint with another huge turnout of 28 runners for these races that are vital for the BADGERS rapidly growing confidence and team spirit. First BADGER home was rugged pinup Ryan Bennett (39.40 PB and CLUB RECORD) in an unprecedented 3rd position, no other BADGER has ever finished that high in the Leicestershire road league, what a hero! Following him home was the form finding Danny Warren(41.48) and fast old goat Matthew Tonks (41.57) who’s points sadly didn’t count for the team due to late entry, however he still bust the V40 7 mile record as consolation. Then came two lads courageous little soldiers taking one for the team, ‘snot ridden’ David Jackson(42.47)and ‘chesty’ Aaron Chetwynd (44.39 PB), their times split by the rapidly improving Jason Malloy (43.55). Captain Adrian Payne actually missed the start of the race due to a timing chip mishap but he still raced taking almost the entire field from the rear and finishing in a creditable 45.32PB. Ladies’ favourite Martyn ’grey power’ Barrett made one of the performances of the day with a quality 47.56, amazingly a V50 platinum standard time for the 58 year old. Not far behind was marathon man Brendan Ford (48.57), Stefan Martin (49.49), ‘man on a mission’ Ben Satchell (51.33PB) , the race rejuvenated Adie Kirkham(51.32) , hard working Rob Crow and ‘form man’ Dave Jarvis (57.04). First BADGER sow home was the rapid Nicki Bowman (57.37) currently getting better every week. Following her closely was ‘professor pace’ Liz Peel just dipping under 1 hour, then Hannah Burgess (59.35PB), BADGER’s legend Richard Hill (59.35) and Stuart Youngs who also just got under the 1hr barrier. Captain Fantastic Rachel Bunting shook off her ankle problems (61.05) followed by the irrepressible Serena Baker (61.13) and Maggi Savin-Baden who showed John the way to go in 64.25 and 65.16 respectively. Making up the remainder of the excellent efforsts was Lilly Bowman (65.34), Judy Parkes (66.24) a well deserved PB! Jason Huselbee-Orwin (67.32), the popular Leesa Dennis (70.09) and SJ Chetwynd (74.51) Chris Horton also took part.

As per usual BADGERS were scattered far and wide scattered in races across the UK. Globetrotter Agbe Liddle found herself in Rhyl Wales on Saturday clocking a swift 1.29.44. At the Brutal Belvoir trail marathon Mark Cox and David Earp ran 4.29 and 5.25 respectively, great efforts on a tough course! At the Carsington Half Marathon Elle Harris and mileage queen Yvonne Faulkner ran 2hrs 10 in very muddy conditions. Teresa Buck traversed her first Half Marathon at Brighton also, a great achievement in her first year as a BADGER. And finally over at the always windy Draycote Water10K Andy Smith and Simon Mahoe-Currier both went sub 55 minutes, followed closely by his cheeky and charming wife Anne-Marie (63.45). Finally coming round in creditable times were Clare Hutton (66.20), Debbie Wilson (70.34), Bamela Bridgewood (68.20) and Karen Draper (68.22)
