Yvonne Faulkner who raced in the Black Country half - BADGERS
The 10th Black Country Half Marathon took place on Sunday starting in Wolverhampton and BADGERS sent over three runners to give it their best shot. Stuart Stafford was the first back in a very impressive time of 1:39:08 a personal best for the newcomer and soon-to-be Dad. Not far behind him was Rob Boland whose veins were bulging by the race’s conclusion, the giant strider crossing the line in a respectable 1:48:29.

Yvonne Faulkner continued her excellent form, the V40 star bagging herself a quality time of 2:04 in hot and humid conditions. Meanwhile, at the Ashbourne half marathon, Holly Matts ran 2:30.

At parkrun, Chris Baxter rocketed around the course at Long Eaton in a terrific 16:50 to grab third place with the improving Dave Jackson two places behind in 5th running a classy 17:49. At Conkers, Stuart Batchelor ran 26:41 ahead of his appearance in the Foremarke Triathlon the following day in which he finished 96th (11th in age-category). He was joined by marathon-runner Jayne Potter who made a rare appearance at the South Derbyshire course.

Parkrun guru Richard Hill clocked a fine 24:43 where it all began for him years ago at Brueton Park. Elsewhere, Sarah Martin ran Perry Hall and Teresa & David Buck both went to Stratford on Avon.

At Kingsbury parkrun, Shaun Illingworth was first BADGER back in 21:09 while Monika Lampart achieved the same feat for the ladies in 21:52 and second overall. Lee Millership (24:09) and Colin Lees (24:11) both did well before Serena Baker romped home in her quickest time in two years to finish 6th lady (24:11). The motivational John Hanson rolled back the years as he strode to a time of 24:43 with Jo Davies (25:33), Charlotte Oliver (26:16) and Darryl Johnson (26:55) all giving an excellent account of themselves. A rejuvenated Pete Wells stormed home in 27:12 with Keir Hardy, Jason Husselbee-Orwin and Fay Casey all making it round in one piece. Leesa Dennis turned in a terrific performance as she achieved a well-deserved personal best of 28:08 in her 40th appearance.

Also marking a milestone was the club’s ever-popular Social Secretary Clare Whetton as she celebrated her 30th birthday, just weeks after becoming a qualified coach alongside Karen Thompson. Super-quick veteran Rachel Crump finally lost her parkrun virginity at the ripe old age of 49! John Dulson (28:46), the hastening Anna Savin-Baden (28:54), club stalwart Paul Grubb (29:25) and the industrious Zoe Yeatman (29:48) all broke 30 minutes.

Becky Kinson made a long-awaited return after injury as Rob Crow, Gail Gunn, Billy Lowman, Pete Black and Bev Spencer all achieved completion. Michelle Carter’s times have improved with her recent training regimen and along with Nicki Bowman, Karen Draper and Claire Bradford all notched up another appearance, rounding up a bumper day for the club. Nivette Chester also ran.
