BRAND NEW KITS SPARK PB BLITZ

Sam Starkey - BADGERS
A record ten BADGERS made top ten finishes this weekend at various parkruns as members took the opportunity to try out their stylish new redesigned club vests. At Kingsbury Water Park, Sam Starkey continued his outrageous good form with an incredible fifth consecutive PB (19:11) and with it ninth place. In his last five runs, Starkey has lopped almost two minutes off his best time showing some huge improvement thanks to his dedicated training. Danny Warren bagged top spot at a wet and boggy Clifton parkrun near Nottingham to make it an incredible 8 consecutive first place finishes matching the record of Chris Horton last year. Warren however has managed to achieve his results across a range of eight different venues as his excellent early 2018 form continues. At Perry Hall parkrun, Stuart Stafford produced a stunning run to bag second place at the Birmingham course, in a time of 21:39, a career best finish.

There was even more success at Conkers as Chris Baxter (17:15) stormed home in second place. In-form Dave Jackson (17:36) beat off veteran Matt Tonks (17:37) in a thrilling climax to take third place while youngster Aaron Chetwynd finished a place behind in fifth with a great run of 17:46. The phlegmatic Adi Payne took a gallant eighth in 18:55 while the ever-impressive Karen Thompson was third in the ladies’ side of things with a super run of 23:07. In addition, key-man Glyn Broadhurst was 12th overall in 19:21 and Nicki Bowman 11th lady in 24:58 in a bumper field just shy of 500. Up the road at a wet and slippy Rosliston, Chris Horton was the sole BADGER in action as the event held its 100th meeting. The brave soldier battled hard to take second place in 19:33 despite struggling with a leg problem.

At Kingsbury, Mark Repton also scored a big new PB with his time of 20:34 while Tim Gould and Shaun Coyle both dug deep ahead of Gavin Crockwell. Lee Millership and newcomer Scott Sweeney both broke 25 minutes before Ashley Taylor, Darryl Johnson and local hockey legend Stuart Batchelor piled through. Jenna Shaw reaped the benefits of her current marathon training programme by hammering a superb new PB in 26:56, providing one of several highlights of the weekend. Stalwart Paul Restall was next through ahead of Sarah Vine, Terry Argyle, Yvonne Faulkner, kit supremo Dave Bailey, Clare Thomas, Amanda Gould, Holly Matts and the popular Clare Hutton. Mandy Hanson finished in 37:41 with John Hanson selflessly bringing up the rear.
The pacy Jared Karim (23:32) ran at Rushcliffe with Richard Hill (25:28) while Jonathan Davies turned out at Worcester and Ann-Marie Matthews one of many runners taking part at Coventry.
Two BADGERS travelled to the Keyworth Turkey Trot half marathon on Sunday. Jonathan Vardy was having a party after he ran a fabulous 93:24, a personal best over the distance for the newcomer and Yvonne Faulkner followed through in 2:12:02. At the Leicester Half Marathon at Prestwold Hall, Liz Peel was first BADGER over the line in 2:01:11 with the up and coming Sue Grice (2:31:11) and Holly Matts (2:45:04) in pursuit. The venerable David Earp made the trip to Moreton Morrell to take part in the Mad Dash 10K event and returned with a respectable time of 48:49.

The rest of the action was at Draycote Water where a number of runners turned out in the cool breeze to run the 10K event around the lake and help Becky Kinson celebrate her 30th birthday. Colon Lees was the first back for the club in a time of 47:12 while Ian Orton performed heroically to set a new personal best of 48:33. Gavin Crockwell did not want to miss out on the action either as he too ran a fine PB in 48:57. Despite suffering with a heavy cold, the birthday girl made it over the line assisted by Stuart Batchelor in 53:00.
