Aaron Chetwynd - BADGERS
BADGERS trio of Aaron Chetwynd, Chris Baxter and Sam Starkey took first place in the men’s team competition at the hotly contested Big Leicester 10K race at the weekend. It was new dad Chetwynd who led the way in blistering style clocking a superb new PB of 35:21 to end up in a fine fifth place overall. Only Danny Warren has run a faster time over the distance within the club as the Baddesley man continues his impressive 2018 season with great aplomb. The pacy Chris Baxter narrowly missed out on a PB too running a quality 35:48 in 7th place while newcomer Starkey continues his meteoric rise with a massive new personal best of 39:03 as he helped his team take the honours. Simon Currier also ran and not wanting to be out-done, helped himself to a PB of 50:04, some two minutes quicker than his previous best. Stuart Youngs also rolled back the years with a classy 51:25.

In the Chester half marathon, Abbie Liddle ran a superb race finishing in a fantastic time of 1:47:04 as her excellent form this term shows no sign of slowing down. In the Cannock Chase half marathon, Ron Mahoney (14th) and Justin Haywood (15th) both put in a terrific shift on a demanding course with Jo Davies and Eamon Thawley (2:24) also calling upon every ounce of their reserves to complete the challenging circuit, a new race on the running calendar. At Blenheim Palace, club stalwart Richard Hill ran the 7.4 km race amongst almost 2000 other runners, emerging back in a strong time of 40:39 in the process. At the Southam Sprint Triathlon, Stefan Martin and Nivette Chester both competed.

There was a plethora of parkrunning too with Matt Tonks going quickest over the weekend at Conkers in a rapid 17:53, being pipped into second place by just nine seconds by a competitor who also ran the London marathon just six days prior! The popular hair stylist clocked 23:04 at Bedworth on Saturday as she was second lady over the line on the day. Also doing the 5K event at the Miners Welfare Park were Colin Lees (21:55), Richard Hamblett (26:30 – a fine PB), Karen Thompson, Charlotte Phillips and Karen Missen. Richard Hill ran 25:02 at Brueton, Jared and Emily Karim turned out at Tollcross in the former’s 99th parkrun while Holly Matts and Andy Smith both made the journey to Sandwell Park.

The remaining action was found at Kingsbury Water Park where key-man Glyn Broadhurst followed up his stunning 8th place at Bakewell with a glorious 3rd spot in 18:42.
