London Marathon 2019

BADGERS RAISE OVER £20,000 FOR GOOD CAUSES AT 2019 LONDON MARATHON

This Sunday’s London marathon will see a record number of Badgers taking part through one means or another and a quick tot up of our charity runners fundraising should see them collectively raise well in excess of a staggering £20,000 for good causes. The hardworking local lads and lasses are running for a variety of causes including the Mary Ann Evans Hospice based in Nuneaton. They include Martyn Barrett, Zoe Cope, Leesa Dennis, Alan Argyle and NHS worker Emma Masser who won a place in the ballot but decided to do a bit for charity anyway.

Keir Hardy is raising funds for Myaware which helps sufferers of Myasthenia Gravis, a disease affecting his father Terry, himself a decent marathoner in his heyday. Clare Whetton is running her first marathon against the odds as she battles back from a stress fracture, all in memory of her beloved Aunt who suffered from MS. Debutante Mark Repton an club marathon record holder Ryan Bennett are both using their qualification spots to raise cash for MacMillan Cancer Support, the same charity Helen Morgan is running for. Men’s team captain Adrian Payne will run alongside Jason Molloy and Luke Melling as they run for local charity Georgie’s Gift. Anne-Marie Matthews is doing her bit for mental health charity MIND. As well as these fine citizens doing their bit for charity, Badgers will be fielding a number of other runners in addition to the fundraisers. Karen Thompson, Damo Taylor, Matt Tonks, Glyn Broadhurst and Chris Horton who all qualified through the good for age criteria hope to be racing while they will be joined by Neil Russell, Mark Darby, David McGowan and Paul Cooper have all made it in through the general ballot so there will be plenty of local interest amongst the 40,000 strong field you can track on line.

Here are a list of all the links if you still want to donate. Unfortunately, just before going to press, Zoe Cope has been forced to defer her entry to 2020 on medical grounds with the hope she has a speedy recovery in order to finish off an excellent job thus far.
