PERSONAL BEST FOR MANCETTER MARVEL!

8 months ago Mancetter based member Karen DRAPER successfully completed the clubs couch to 5k programme, after inspiration from previously injured team mates Leesa DENNIS and Janet CRUMPTON.

The trio, well known in North Warwickshire for their vocal talents in local pop band "The Badger Spice girls", started a journey together to regain not only fitness but lost confidence during the lockdown period.

DRAPER said " I hit an all time low in terms of my weight and overall fitness levels but my Badger family picked me up and kept me going. They made me believe in myself and refused to let me give up when I found it tough."

Collectively they have run 4 times a week and have lost a combined total of 6 stone. The highlight for DRAPER was during this week's inter club 5k event organised by Leicester runners. The event featured 16 different running clubs with a total of 552 recorded times with DRAPER running a personal best of 26:55.

Over 50 members took part with the club finishing in 6th position. Sam "Magnum" STARKEY demonstrated his personal progress with a quality time of 17:49, with Sarah Jane CHETWYND impressing in 25:27.

Jill MILLER ran a distance best (27:54) and Anne DEVENNEY continues to improve with her hard work paying dividends (30:41).

There was further joy for popular runner Paul COOPER, another who has made great strides since joining the club. (30:04 New PB)

Fiona REIDY (28:40 PB) covered 56 miles in February to raise money for Cancer Research, an achievement matched by partner Pierre STRINGFELLOW who also ran his furthest distance this week of 15 miles prior to his 70th birthday next week.

Multi talented Emma MASSER showed true grit finishing in 29:45. A time made all the more remarkable as she completed the Wolfpack 100 team event this weekend covering over 100k in less than 48 hours, with Mark COX also featuring.

Club members were also delighted to see Sarah VINE (31:41) return and the Measham Maestro Alan ARGYLE (30:26) after an injury lay off.

Members have been busy clocking up the mileage in preparation for the Ashby 20 event. Gail GUNN has her sights set on the race hoodie as she covered a total of 18 miles at the weekend, which also included a silver standard time over 5k.

Sharon JACKSON, Averil WILLIAMS, Christine MORRIS, Paul COOPER and Vicki SMITH to name but a few, are just several club members this week to run over the 1/2 marathon distance.

Finally, David GRANT completed his challenge of a sober 100 miles for the month of February and various club runners are nearing the end of the Run for the trees event including Nicki BOWMAN and Anna DAWE.
