STRENGTH OF BODY AND MIND!

Lockdown restrictions and a lack of gym opportunities have impacted most during the COVID-19 pandemic. For one BADGERS member, the toll both mentally and physically prompted a personal challenge inspired by world-renowned ultra-distance athlete David GOGGINS.

No stranger himself to distance or obstacle events, Carl HOLYOAK completed the 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours event, covering a total of 48 miles during 12 runs. A fantastic achievement helped by several club colleagues, including George CLOONEY lookalike Stefan MARTIN and Mark COX.

The BADGERS very own Jedi knight was grateful to his wife Esther for running regular baths with his favourite Matey bubble bath. After falling out with his alarm clock on more than one occasion, HOLYOAK celebrated with an early hours big Kahuna burger and a regular Sprite. ( The cornerstone of any nutritious breakfast )

5 new members have joined the club over the last few weeks including ex Hatton Darts runner Laura BINGHAM. The Staffordshire County pool player joined the club to assist her recovery from a netball injury and to regain confidence following a torn ACL. The 26 year old Nuneaton based athlete who favours cross country and the ½ marathon distance, will no doubt prove to be a welcome addition to the club and ladies league race teams.

Relatively new runner and competitive recurve archer Ivana BABICOVA is another new to the club, after only taking up running just over 2 years ago. During this period she has run over 20 ½ marathons and completed her first marathon. Having moved to the Polesworth area in January Ivana said “I searched for a friendly inclusive running group. When I discovered BADGERS I was beside myself with excitement.”

As previously mentioned in recent weeks, several club runners have been working hard during the latter stages of the Run for the Trees event.

Rob CROW, Nicki BOWMAN, Pip WESTON, Judy DICKINSON, Adrian PARKES, Teresa BUCK and the impressive Anna DAWE have all helped contribute towards 289 newly planted trees in the National Forest.
