Week Ending - 2021/08/01
THE SECOND COMING OF SPEEDY SCARSBROOK
Badgers star Matt Scarsbrook bounced back to glory with a marvellous second place at the Maverick Black Trails 23K race in Kent at the weekend. After his epic win two weeks ago in Buckinghamshire, the Baddesley man almost matched his fine feat there with a quality run and time of 98:34. On a slippy and challenging course, he was only beaten by one other athlete, Ethiopian shifter Seyfuu Jamaal who had an extra two minutes in had over the flying Badger. With the second of five LRRL league races coming care of the midweek Joy Cann 5 in Huncote, there was little other action at the weekend save for parkrun which made a long-awaited return the week before. Mark Repton ran 19:03 to grab 3rd on the new Kingsbury course with Matt Jackson back in the groove in 22:27. Wayne Repton, Mick Bailey, Lee Millership and Steve Perry were all back within 25 minutes while the first lady back was Charlene Dunn in an impressive 26:08. Paul Wallace, Paul Restall, John Restall, John Devenney all went well as did mother and daughter combo Maggi and Anna Savin-Baden and Amanda Gould.
There were a number of Badgers on their travels, Paul Grubb turned out at Beacon parkrun, Jill Miller ran well at Killerton in Devon, Liz Peel ran Lowestoft and Jared Karim ran Ludlow with Zoe Yeatman in hot pursuit. Mike Wyant was in Worthing while closer to home one to watch Laura Bingham bagged 3rd place at Bedworth with a speedy 25:31, Emma Masser and Rich Hamblett also running. The reliable Bill Gutheridge was the sole representative at Brueton Park running 23:12. Andy and Caroline Smith both clocked good times at Coventry parkrun and Ian Orton led home a trio of Badgers including Adam McElhone and Nicola Orton at Babbs Mill.
Several Badgers starred at Conkers, Cameron Barnes going well in 20:53 and veteran Merv Jones rolling back the years with another effort laden run. Charlie King and Karen Draper both recorded good times with Terry Argyle, Dave Bailey and Lisa Barnes all featuring.
