BAKING BADGERS BEAT THE HEAT

BADGERS of the WEEK

n/a

As temperatures sky-rocketed to unprecedented levels this week plucky marathon runner Steph Attenborough tackled a cheeky double. Enigma Batmobiles Marathon around Caldecotte Lake in Milton Keynes in 5:34:38 on day 1, and then Saturn’s TiT marathon at Wraysbury by the River Thames in 6:11:09 on day 2. Tempting as it was for Attenborough to cool off in the Thames she soldiered on in roasting conditions. Up in sunny Shropshire Andy Smith and Holly Smith ran the first quarter of the Telford T50 from Oakengates to Lilleshall and back to Abbey covering a half marathon distance.

There were also may impressive parkrun performances this week. Neil Clemons ran a swift PB at Gorleston Cliffs parkrun 18.26, and the trusty local run at Kingsbury Water saw a great turn out of the new beginner Badgers graduation 5K. Congratulations Fritz Loma and Hattie Fuller! Barnsley beauty Sharon Jackson celebrated her 200th parkrun, running in alongside Liz Peel in 27:32, whilst fellow Badgers Sam Starkey, David Jackson, Cameron Barnes, Mark Repton, Glyn Broadhurst, Tim Gould, Michael Bailey, Rob Crow, Andy Smith, Rachel Shelton, Megan Griffiths, Dave Jenkinson, Neil Thorne, Adrian Parkes, Mervyn Jones, Steve Perry, Lil Souter, Laura Starkey, Gervase Lancaster, John Devenney, and David Bailey all ran sub-30 minutes times.

Joining the Badgers extravaganza at Kingsbury were Jo Davies, Janet Crumpton, Sarah O’Donoghue, Jamie Lawrence, Matt Heap, Terry Argyle, Ivana Babicova, Teresa Satchell, Paul Cooper, Adam McElhone, Amanda Gould, Leesa Dennis, and Caroline Smith. And despite the sweaty conditions both David Purvis (23:07) and Anne Devenney (34:40) achieved personal best times too at Kingsbury. So whilst (quite sensibly) not out in force this week the Badgers did indeed beat the heat.
