Fresh from his victory at the inaugural Lincolnshire Maverick 10k, Danny Warren headed to the peaks for the Peak District Autumn Trail race, an event covering 9.5 miles with an elevation of over 1,400ft. The club stalwart stormed home once again in 1:08:59 with a magnificent first place, showing that he is well and truly back to his best.

Further afield, the unusual race distance of 10 miles was available. At the Yorkshire 10 Miles, the Coogan’s Hannah and Peter managed 1:34:00 and 1:22:37 respectively. Meanwhile, in Portsmouth at the Great South Run, Matt Scarsbrook, representing his ‘other’ club, managed a brilliant 52:08 with 21st position. First Badger back was Ryan Preece 58:53 followed by Ashley Taylor 1:11:12, taking a 6 min PB. Jimmy Dewis came home in 1:18, with David Craig 1:19:25 knocking 8 mins off his previous pb.

The longest race distance of the week was from Paul Cooper who travelled to Oxford for its Half Marathon. The much-improved Badger set himself the target of a sub-2-hour half by the new year and surprised himself by smashing his target a few months early, completing the course in an excellent 1:59:38, a pb of over 21 minutes.

The most exotic race location once again was from our sole Portuguese representative Justin Haywood, who completed the Mini Mama Maritona on the Algarve in 48:31 (when asked about the distance he replied “officially 10.5k, unofficially it was further than that, and it was hot!”)

At the other end of the attendance spectrum, the Tamworth 10k saw over a dozen Badgers supporting this local event. First back was Sam Starkey in a spritely 37:46 with 9th place overall. Wayne Repton was next back in 45:39, Andy Altoft 46:18 and Megan Griffiths 1st lady in 48:44, 9th overall. Simon Payne 51:22, Suzy Farrell 53:54 and Jill Miller 57:37 all ducked under the hour. Fritz Loma 70mins, Alicia Gutheridge 72mins, Juliette Trollope and Anne Marie 77mins and Gemma Spencer 81mins were amongst the plethora of Badgers who finished.

Kingsbury parkrun once again saw the biggest turnout for the club with Badgers taking 6 of the top seven places. Rapid runners Sam Starkey and Glyn Broadhurst both ducked under 19 mins, and Andy Altoft knocked 45 seconds from his parkrun pb with 22:53 and a top 20 finish.
