YOUNG BLITZES PARKRUN BEST AT CONKERS

BADGERS of the WEEK

n/a

Badgers runner Chris Young had reason to celebrate at the weekend as he rocketed around the 5K Conkers parkrun faster than he had ever done before. Up until Saturday, his parkrun PB had stood at 26:52 at the same venue late last year but on a beautiful May morning, he cosigned that run to the dustbin of the past with a rip-snorting 24:27 to post a new personal best beyond his wildest expectation. Sam Starkey was in fine fettle clocking 20:13 for fifth place along the seafront at Minehead, a week after notching up his 200th run at his 50th different venue (Market Bosworth). Mark Repton was three seconds slower over at Kingsbury where he took ninth position overall. The fastest Badger of the weekend however was Mark Coggan at Chasewater, where the V50 ace managed a very impressive 19:31 in 5th place ahead of a slew of Badger teammates who were well and truly in awe of an excellent outing. Megan Griffiths was the highest placed Badger of the weekend with her 2nd placed 22:56 and Jill Miller waded into the action with a PB time of 25:41 and a top ten finish to boot. Vice-captain Sharon Jackson also made the top ten with her 24:37 at Alvaston.

With many Badgers saving themselves for the upcoming West End 8 league race at Syston on Sunday, only Andy and Holly Smith were in action outside of parkrun, as the intrepid pair pitted their wits at the challenging Shindig in the Shire half marathon in Shropshire, a beautiful course if not one for attempting a PB.
