BADGERS of the WEEK

HUNCOTE DELIGHT FOR CHESTER AND WHITE!!!

On the final weekend of a hugely successful year for Badgers Running Club, who better to lead the way than inspirational club coach Nivette Chester. The North Warwickshire based club were again heavily represented in this years popular Huncote Hash 10k event in Leicestershire.

Long serving Stephanie White capped off a fantastic year, as a whole cluster of Badgers runners enjoyed navigating the multi terrain course.

In an event that saw members new and old feature, the experienced Eamon Thawley demonstrated that true Badger spirit with a course best of 65 minutes.

Reliable Colin Lees (55:18) and Ian Orton (58:44) both impressed.

Mark Cox continued his progress, as he took 4 minutes off for a new course PB (49:21).

The star of the show however was Joanne Hardy, as she remarkably took over 8 minutes off her previous time for a new PB (77:17).

Charlotte Oliver was one of many that took part as was Cameron Barnes (57:56).


Several runners travelled to compete in the Wheaton Aston 10k. Jonathon Vardy was first back for the club in an impressive time of 40:06. Seasoned campaigner Richard Hill powered through in 53:54, before the energetic Yvonne Faulkner finished in 56:39. Emma Vardy was certainly another level, as she took 3 minutes off for a new distance PB time (49:49)


37 members descended on their home parkrun at Kingsbury water park. The highly regarded not to mention successful Danny Warren was first back for the club, finishing in 3rd place.

Sam Starkey capped a fantastic 2018 with a top 5 finish (18:49)

Keir Hardy is another that has literally gone from strength to strength. Finishing in the top 10 he rang the PB bell once he crossed the line in a personal best of 19:18.

Matt Tonks finished comfortably under 20 minutes in 19:46. Namesake Matt Green continues to improve on his times, as he and experienced teammate Tim Gould both crossed the line in an apt 20:18.

Young Cameron Barnes (22:49) was followed by David Craig (23:25), Colin Lees (23:31), Rob Crow (23:43) and Neil Clemons (25:13).

Rachael Shelton was first female runner back in 25:15. The esteemed Judy Parkes was certainly in the mood, as she had the distinction of 1st in her age category. (25:32)

John Devenney has been in fantastic form this year (25:56). Eamon Thawley (26:17) and Darryl Johnson (26:18) followed next.

A trio of female Badgers impressed. Fiona Meldrum (26:52), Sarah Vine (26:59) and Joanne Hardy (27:37) all enjoyed the occasion.

The dependable John Dulson finished in 28:10. Also running were Alan and Terry Argyle, Glen Thomas and Jo Davies with Peter Boardman crossing soon after (31:35)

The popular Dave Bailey closed in on his impending 100th parkrun (31:40)

Amanda Gould (31:57), Yvonne Feasey (33:02) both got in on the action.

Helen Morgan is a lady certainly on form, as she ran 34:10 for a new PB.

Peter Black ran his 100th parkrun (35:16).

Ben Satchell, Lisa Barnes, Sam Klucis, and Anne Devenney rounded off proceedings.


An array of Badgers travelled far and wide to compete in this weekend’s parkrun events.

Holly Matts and Andy Smith both finished in 28:50 at Walsall.

Mick Judd flew the flag in Norfolk at Holkham (35:21).

Nivette Chester (24:21) finished 2nd lady back at Queen Elizabeth parkrun. Fellow first timer Richard Chester ran 28:43.

At Arrow Valley Jenna Davies completed the course in 27:10. Lesley Palmer left with a time of 32:27.

At the new Churchfields Farm parkrun, Glyn Broadhurst was first back in 21:55. Jared Karim, Nicola Bowman, Karen Thompson and Richard Hill all made their debuts.


Closer to home and 10 members appeared at Bedworth parkrun. It was Mark Cox again who finished 1st in 7th place (20:25). John Hanson not only bagged a new course PB, he also finished 1st in his age category. (22:29)

Emma Masser ran well (27:26). Gail Gunn ran superb in 29:17, pushed all the way by Steve Stifler (29:19).

Charlotte Phillips and Karen Missen took advantage of the favourable running conditions. Mandy Hanson continued to impress as she also left with a new PB time of 33:02.

Jane Walford and first timer Gail Prince completed the line up.


At Conkers Chris Baxter again ran sub 17 minutes, in his 150th parkrun (16:56), to finish in 2nd place.

Graham Engley ran 21:13 with experienced marathon campaigner Adie Kirkham pocketing a quality 22:19.

Leesa Dennis has really dazzled this year and will no doubt continue to catch the eye in 2019! (28:28)


Many runners also featured in the festive parkrun events over Christmas.

Liz Peel completed her 51st marathon at the Christmas Cracker event on Christmas Eve.

Gavin Crockwell (25:55) and Paul Bruce (28:15) rounded off the weekend, by taking part in the Massey Ferguson runners 3.55 mile New Years pace event, at Coventry War Memorial Park.
