BAXTER BACK IN THE THICK OF IT AT SHEPSHED SEVEN

Badgers star Chris Baxter returned to the town of his upbringing at the weekend as he along with a handful of team-mates took on a particularly wet and tricky Shepshed 7 race. Two scenic laps of the DeLisle estate make up the bulk of this popular event and despite some boggy patches and puddles of rain, the 30 year old dad of one pushed hard throughout the race to finish in a superb fourth place overall to earn a share of the prizemoney in a superb time of 41:32. Nivette Chester broke the hour mark coming home in 55:06 with husband Richard getting back in 64:31. Liz Peel rounded things up in 68:01.

At the Wyre Wizard dirt run, Emma Masser tackled the half marathon event finishing in a respectable 2:11 while at the Flying Fox 10 race near Stone, Jo Davies (96 mins) and Kerry Clover (94 mins) both gave a tough race their best efforts. Carl Savage tackled two events in the same weekend and emerged with PB’s in both. He ran a quality 44:47 in the Tatton Park 10K and followed it up with a 1:47:02 in the half marathon a day later.

Badgers ladies were peppering the top ten at Kingsbury Water Park on Saturday. Speedy Sharon Jackson, (no relation to Samuel L.) took fourth in 24:55 with the pacy Katy Clemons 6th in 26:01 and racy Rachael Shelton bagging 7th a second behind. Wayne Repton marked his 100th parkrun being first back in 24:23 with Matt Jackson, Dave Bailey and Pete Boardman all attending. Dean Bowd went well as did John Hanson in his 300th parkrun and his 200th at Kingsbury, a stupendous achievement from the former boxer. Other runners included Liz Peel, Teresa Satchell, Ann-Marie Currier, Vicky Cawley, Vicky Jennings, Sue Thould and Vicki Fowler.

Intrepid Richard Hill took Jared Karim to Salcey Forest where the duo ran 29:41 and 25:23 respectively. Karen Missen was in action at Cannock Chase (31:55) with tall accountant Stuart Youngs clocking 26:20 at Braunstone. Merv Jones (27:30), Leesa Dennis (29:54) and Jason Husselbee-Orwin (34:50) were all flying the flag at Conkers and Paul & Karly Cooper managed 43:06 at Clermont Waterfront parkrun. The steady Jenny Davies ran 28:38 at Melton Mowbray while Sam Starkey travelled to Dolgellau to run 27:56. Robert Boland made the top ten at Bedworth with his barnstorming 21:55 earning the popular pensions advisor eighth place and Babbs Mill saw four Badgers descend on the new 5K event there, club coach Nivette Chester was third lady overall in 24:19, the super steady Karen Thompson fourth overall in 25:53 with Adam McElhone and Gavin Crockwell both coming back in a fraction under 27 minutes.

Jack Reynolds was in action at Oswestry, the new recruit managing 24:55 in his run there. Eamon Thawley ran 33:52 at Woolacombe Dunes parkrun and last but not least 66-year-old Mick Bailey ran a rapid 23:12 over at the pretty Chasewater circuit.
