RESPECT DUE AS BADGERS REMEMBER

Armistice Day took on an unfamiliar feeling for the first time in memory with remembrance services unable to go ahead in the usual time-honoured fashion. Members of Badgers Running Club managed to do their own little bit individually to pay respect to those who gave their lives in service protecting our freedom. Runners were invited to run either 11 kilometres or 11 miles on the 11th November and over two dozen athletes took part both at home and abroad.

Dressed mainly in Poppy red, many of the team incorporated visits to local war memorials on their routes which combined totalled almost 200 miles. In Nuneaton, Paul Cooper, Mandi Stain, David Grant and Becky Harris all took part while others ran closer to the Baddesley birthplace of the North Warwickshire club, namely Lorna Jackson, Nivette Chester, Stephanie White and Matt Scarsbrook.

Overseas stars Justin Haywood and Martyn Barrett paid their running respects in sunny Portugal and Spain respectively where they are currently situated while doctor’s orders meant that Sarah Vine, Yvonne Faulkner, Steph Attenborough and Matt Green took a more limited involvement, but an involvement nonetheless.

Other runners to embrace the initiative included Pip Weston, Kerry Clover, Chris Horton, Karen Thompson, Serena Baker, Carl Savage, Chris Davies, Vicky London and Hannah Craig. A number of donations were made to the Royal British Legion as the club, who have ex-service personnel amongst their membership base, paid their respects to ensure that those who gave their lives are not forgotten.
