PIP BACK AFTER LENGTHY INJURY ABSENCE

Badgers star Pip Weston made a welcome return to racing action after spending a considerable time rehabilitating an old injury as she and teammate Fiona Hutton made their way to the Lake District over the bank holiday weekend to feature in the Ambleside based Trail Pursuit event. Weston, the holder of a number of club records took on the 13K distance and finished a creditable 157th from all finishers, regardless of age and gender, with her time of 1:40:21. Hutton opted for the longer length, tackling the rugged half marathon distance as she emerged home in 2:42:04.

Wayne Repton has gradually been building up his appetite for longer distances over the last 12 months and on Monday he made his debut in the marathon at the tender age of 40. The Tamworth based athlete enjoyed a good run out too, managing to sneak under four hours in his attempt, crossing the line in a super 3:59:33.

Lovebirds Nicki Bowman and Glyn Broadhurst had a dabble at the Bucks Sprint Duathlon in Wendover in the Chilterns. Plucky Bowman showed her finesse as she made the top 20 ladies overall with her time of 2:01:00, made up of two five-kilometre runs interspersed with a 13-mile bike ride and transitions. A relative novice at the discipline, unpunctual Bowman managed to finish fifth in her age category, a tremendous effort from someone so relatively inexperienced. Unfortunately, an untimely puncture midway through the bike leg put paid to Broadhurst’s hopes of a good finish, indeed the race overall, his only comfort being a slightly earlier than planned start on the post-race Carling.
