A wet and muddy Cannock Chase saw runners from across the Midlands gather to tackle two races distances at the weekend, a half marathon and a 10K, both with treacherous underfoot conditions after prolonged heavy rain. Badgers had four representatives in action and it was Dordon don Chris Tweed who led the way with a superb 13th place finish in the half marathon event with a cracking time of 1:43:07. Also bravely attempting the long length was Atherstone ace Martin Graham who emerged back in a creditable 2:03, caked in mud after his epic battle. Suzy Farrell (67:39) gave the 10K a good go as she continues to get stronger and stronger and the experienced Sharon Jackson also managed to get around in one piece.

At the Leicestershire Running Festival at Prestwold, Wayne Repton entered the 10-mile race and nipped six seconds off his personal best with a corking run of 78:42, a terrific effort from the Tamworth veteran. Stateside, Angela Stallings ran a fine 2:15 for the Emerald Isle half marathon, an excellent return to form for her who was once again, first Badger back no less!

At parkrun, Glyn Broadhurst took third place at Newtown in Wales with a brisk 18:35. Cameron Barnes ran a sub-20 6th place 19:48 at Boston and Suzy Farrell was the second highest placed female at parkrun with a super seventh position at Kingsbury Water Park in 26:38, beaten only by the rapid Rachael Shelton who took a brilliant second spot in 25:10. The challenging underfoot conditions there were made light of by the Badgers pace trio of Sam Starkey (18:44), Aaron Chetwynd (19:01) and Dave Jackson (19:42) who took 3rd, 6th and 7th respectively. Mark Repton also made the top ten with his pre-New York marathon trot of 20:12.
